Position Summary
Redtree is seeking a Data Center Design Manager to run the design of mission-critical data center facilities from concept through construction and commissioning. You will lead multidisciplinary teams of architects, MEP engineers, structural and civil consultants, and specialist vendors to deliver designs that are safe, buildable, reliable, and on budget, and that meet client, regulatory, and sustainability requirements. Working closely with construction, procurement, operations, and clients, you will turn business needs into scalable designs for hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, and AI/HPC facilities.
This role requires being on-site full-time at New York office.
You Will…
● Lead the full design process (Concept, Schematic, Design Development, Construction Documents, and IFC) for new builds, expansions, and retrofits.
● Manage and coordinate external design consultants and internal engineering teams across architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, civil, and controls disciplines.
● Ensure designs meet the client's Basis of Design (BoD), Owner's Project Requirements (OPR), and reliability targets.
● Run design reviews, constructability reviews, and value engineering workshops.
● Oversee BIM coordination and clash detection, and maintain high model quality and LOD standards.
● Build and manage design schedules, deliverables, and milestones in line with the overall project program.
● Track design budgets, consultant fees, and change orders.
● Identify design risks early and drive mitigation plans.
● Support procurement of long-lead equipment (generators, switchgear, UPS, chillers) with technical specifications and bid evaluations.
● Manage RFIs, submittals, and design changes during construction.
● Act as the main design contact for clients, internal leadership, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and utility providers.
● Work with construction managers, commissioning agents, and operations teams so designs are buildable, testable, and maintainable.
● Present design progress, risks, and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
● Champion modular, prefabricated, and repeatable design approaches to speed delivery.
If You…
● Hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
● Have 8+ years of experience in the design of mission-critical facilities, including at least 3 years in a design management or lead role.
● Have experience managing multiple consultants and multidisciplinary design teams.
● Are familiar with BIM workflows (Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360/ACC).
● Bring excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
● Strong knowledge of data center power and cooling systems, redundancy concepts, and reliability standards.
● Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or registered Architect.
● Uptime Institute ATD/AOS, CDCP/CDCS/CDCE, or similar data center certifications.
● PMP or equivalent project management certification.
